I’m not picky, so I enjoy simple snacks at the university cafes too, like pastries or a chicken wrap that costs three euros. I’m planning to try more local dishes from the restaurants here soon, especially fresh seafood from the coast. I’m excited to see and taste all the new flavors.

What music did I listen to this week?:

I listened to Portuguese music, including a band called Vizinhos. Their song “Pôr do Sol” has been on the radio almost every day, so I stumbled upon it and started learning the words. My teacher even played it in class during a listening activity, where we had to fill in missing words from the lyrics.

Before this, a woman got on the moving metro, singing and playing guitar. It’s not unusual to see people performing music in Lisbon, which makes the city feel alive.

I also heard live music while waiting at a metro station, where a man was playing the trumpet with his instrument case open for tips. Performances like this are common and really bring the city to life.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

The most fun activity this week was spending time with my classmates from Moscow after school and practicing Portuguese together. We usually meet at a cozy university cafe during breaks or after classes. The cafe has tables outside in a small courtyard, where we sit and chat while enjoying pastries, coffee, or small snacks. There’s also a library near where I live, where I sometimes study alone, and there is another library on campus where I sometimes study with my classmates or by myself.

We practice Portuguese by asking each other questions and going over verbs, and we laugh at our mistakes or funny pronunciations.
