Our News

This book explores Mongolia’s history, customs, culture and people. Even though my schedule is very busy, I’m determined to finish the book before I leave Mongolia.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

I learned how to play Texas hold 'em over the weekend with two of my friends here. Despite being from Nevada, I surprisingly know very little about card games!

Other news from this week:

Speaking of Tsagaan Sar and buuz, my friends and I actually made buuz from scratch and brought them to share with my coworkers at school. One of my coworkers even invited me to celebrate the holiday with her family, so I spent an entire day hosting alongside them as relatives and friends came to visit. We also traveled to visit two other families she’s close with, one in the city and one in the countryside.

Getting to the family in the city meant sitting in traffic for nearly three hours. Traffic in Ulaanbaatar is notoriously difficult, and that was the worst I’ve experienced so far. But it was completely worth it once we made it out to the countryside. I saw one of the most beautiful sunsets and one of the most breathtaking starry nights of my life.
