Our News

The pool was a very popular spot, and when not swimming, I hung out with my host mom and ate fresh fruit.

What did I read this week?:

This week, I have read in the books of John and Revelation in the Bible. I also just finished a moving autobiography by a Cambodian woman named Chantha Nguon called Slow Noodles. I love reading, and one of my favorite things to do in my free time is to dive into a new book.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

This week I played a couple rounds of badminton with my host siblings and neighbor kids. Badminton is very popular in Cambodia right now, and I often see people of all ages with badminton racquets at the local park. In the classroom, I played several games with students, including hangman, rock-paper-scissors and hot potato.

Other news from this week:

This past week was Lunar New Year, and although not an official holiday in Cambodia, many people celebrate it in their own ways. Last Monday, the eve of the new lunar year, I showed up to school and quickly realized that I was one of the only people there! For many Cambodians, the day before Lunar New Year is for spending time with family and eating lots of home-cooked food. So even though the school was open, most teachers and students stayed home for the day. Only a few students from one of my classes showed up, so we spent all of class playing English games, and then I got to go home early.
