What main languages are spoken here?:

The offical language of Costa Rica is Spanish! Do any of you know Spanish? I knew a little before starting my adventure, but I knew Mexican Spanish, not Costa Rican Spanish. There are many differences with the meanings of words and phrases amongst Spanish-speaking countries. For example, the main word for "jacket" in Costa Rica is "el abrigo," but I was taught to say "la chamarra." Another fun word that is used almost in every sentence in Costa Rica is "mae." The word "mae" is like saying the word "bro" or "dude" in English. The most important saying in Costa Rica is "pura vida" which translates to "pure life." You will hear people say "pura vida" to say "hello," "goodbye," "everything is good," "take care" and so much more.

Spanish is not the only language spoken in Costa Rica. Many people know some English. On the Caribbean side, you will also hear Limonese Creole being spoken. There are also several indigenous languages spoken, as well as Costa Rican Sign Language.
