I got to Speyer around lunch time, so I tried a new restaurant, stumbled upon some cute shops, explored some gorgeous historical buildings and ended up going to a small local art gallery.
This last weekend I went to a bigger town that had a bookstore with an English book section. While there, I found a book on display as a top pick for 2026, titled “I Who Have Never Known Men” by a Belgian author named Jaqueline Harpman. Originally published in French in the 1990s, the English translation has started to really get attention in the wider world. I am loving it so far!
I love to dance, so I attend a bachata dance class at the university where I take classes. It happens every Wednesday night and, this week, we learned a new type of spin and worked on dancing more smoothly with a partner.
In Germany, cities love to customize their crossing signals. In Speyer, I saw ones with a small boy with messy hair holding a pretzel. After some digging, I found out that his name is Bretzelbu and Speyer is one of four German cities that claims to be the birthplace of pretzels!
