Getting around in Italy and other parts of Europe is not the same as in places where most people rely on cars. Many cities are older and built with narrow streets, so walking and public transportation are more common. Trains connect cities and even countries, making it possible to travel long distances without a car. In towns and cities, people use buses, trams and subways to get where they need to go. Biking and walking are also part of everyday life. Because of this, transportation feels more connected to the city itself and how people live each day.
People use trains a lot, especially to go between cities. Inside cities, there are buses, trams and subways. Lots of people also walk or ride bikes, and you’ll see way fewer cars in some places.
At first, I would go in the wrong direction on my way to school because of how the metro systems are designed. In Milan, there are trams, buses and trains. These modes of transportation all operate differently! Especially in a big city like Milan, if you are not used to the public transport system, you can get lost very easily. Over time, you get used to it, and it's a fun ride wherever you go!
