The real threat to this species is climate change. New Taiwan beech trees sprout very slowly and the population in Taiwan is threatened by warming temperatures, which allow more lower-elevation species to grow at the Taiwan beech's preferred elevation. Additionally, stronger and more frequent typhoons could severely damage trees. The Taiwan beech's conservation status is listed as vulnerable, so I am worried about its future in Taiwan. However, I believe there are many new scientific tools emerging to aid plant populations threatened by climate change and habitat isolation, like the Taiwan beech forest I visited.
