Trying German Food

Introduction:

I’ll tell you, when I first imagined coming to Europe, I thought about the food before anything else. I had heard all these stories about European food, how the ingredients were fresher, there were fewer chemicals and everything tasted better. People made it sound almost magical. Since coming to Germany, I have tried a variety of foods. Some I have really enjoyed, while others I did not like very much. Regardless, I am grateful that I have had the opportunity to try so many different foods and experience a different food culture.

What food did I try?:

Let me begin with the foods I did enjoy: Bratwurst, Currywurst, Doner Kebab and pastries. I think Germans make amazing sausages. Bratwurst has a smoky, salty and well seasoned flavor that I really enjoy. I also love German bread because it is soft and fluffy and has a great texture. Doner Kebab is in its own dimension of deliciousness, with the meat, vegetables, bread and sauce all coming together.

Although I have enjoyed many German foods, I have not enjoyed everything. Our school cafeteria serves food that I have often found lacking in flavor, such as vegan pasta and rice with vegetables and meat. I also did not enjoy German pizza because I found it too sweet. In the local areas, there are also many restaurants that serve American style foods.
