It has been four months since I moved to Hobart! When I first arrived, I was nervous and excited. It was hard for me to think about how far I was from home. I pictured a globe with Hopkinton on one end and Hobart on the completely opposite side. Even now, sometimes I feel scared when I think about how far away I am from home. But being scared can be a good thing because it means that you are growing and learning new things!
When I was your age, I liked to watch documentaries about Australian wildlife and dream about seeing crazy animals like wallabies and Tasmanian devils in person some day. Now that I’m here living in Australia, I walk by wallabies all the time, and they still amaze me! I always thought Australian animals were super cool, and I’ve learned that Australians think our animals are pretty cool, too! People in Australia love to hear about animals in America, like bears and squirrels. They think my accent is interesting, too, and they ask me what America is like. One of the best parts about moving to Australia is learning that the place I grew up in is unique. Hopkinton has wildlife and culture and traditions that people from other parts of the world have never seen. Getting to represent my country and my home while I’m in Australia is very exciting.
