Fish and Potatoes and Beans, Oh My!

Introduction:

Fish, potatoes and beans are common in UK food because they are relatively cheap here. I've enjoyed trying dishes that showcase the different ways the UK prepares these three staples!

What food did I try?:

I've tried a lot of food with fish, potatoes, and beans in the UK. Fish and chips is a popular dish (“chips” are fried potato wedges). A jacket potato is another way to prepare potatoes besides chips, it’s a baked potato cut down the middle with toppings like butter, cheese, and beans. Beans are also commonly served on toast for an English breakfast.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

Fish and chips are very greasy, but also very tasty when made well, so I've found that local shops that specialize in making the dish are the way to go! Chips are similar to but a bit thicker than fries you would get in the US. Chips are commonly eaten with mayo here instead of ketchup, which I like more than I expected to. I've found jacket potatoes to be pretty similar to loaded baked potatoes I would have back home, but putting beans on toast took me some more getting used to. I most enjoy a jacket potato or English breakfast after a hard workout, like playing a rugby match!

How is the food prepared?:

Fish is brought in from the ocean, then battered and fried. Potatoes are fried for “chips” and baked for jacket potatoes.
