I am happy my new friends in Ms. Lyon's class at Felicita Elementary School know this place that I now call home. Stay curious about the world and its many people and cultures.
I know sometimes when someone lives so far away, it may seem like they are very different from you. Yes, it is true that people are different, but that is what makes us unique. Still, we are more alike than you may first think. Remember the time we compared and contrasted the schools, buildings and games in Lesotho with those of your own in America?
Sure, the places where we live and learn come in different shapes, sizes and colors. Sometimes, the games we play are made of different materials, like skipping ropes made of leaves and plastic bags or toy animals made of clay mud. Still, we all have in common our right to go to school, sleep in a house and play with our friends.
When it is your turn to travel, remember to enjoy the yummy foods. My favorite foods in Lesotho are fat cakes and peaches and of course, home-grown veggies. Food is the best way to know a place and a culture. Be brave and try new foods.
