The landscape of Costa Rica is very diverse. There's beaches, cities and beautiful mountains, which make traveling through the country an interesting experience. You may need a different mode of travel depending on where you are! For example, in the mountains of Mastatal, the hills were so steep that I saw people traveling with ATVs. However, in cities like San José, you can walk, drive or bike.
The main modes of transportation are personal vehicles, public buses and motorcycles. However, as a visitor, I have used Uber and taxis more frequently. Costa Rica has a very good public transportation system, especially in its capital city, San José. These buses are very affordable and can help people travel short and long distances. I often see kids walking home from school with their parents, since schools are more local. In more rural places, I have also seen people traveling on horseback. This is much rarer, though.
I feel excited whenever I travel in Costa Rica, but the traffic can be heavy. When I'm on field trips, we take two big vans which fit 14 people each! In my personal time, my friends and I will use ride-sharing apps like Uber or Taxis. Driving on Costa Rican roads can be very windy. Imagine a squiggle that stretches for miles.
