Many trips in Costa Rica take me alongside the beautiful mountains and protected areas.
Although taxis and Ubers are global, they give me a chance to talk with local Costa Ricans and practice Spanish. I have met many drivers who are studying in University and doing this as a side job. Other times, people will give recommendations for good restaurants or places to visit. In this way, interacting with locals through transportation gives me the opportunity to engage in their culture. One time, a friendly driver offered to teach me how to dance. So, we actually stopped on the side of the road and he taught all my friends how to salsa and bachata.
