I strongly believe food is an important part of experiencing a new culture. While living in Hungary, I had the opportunity to try a popular local dish called lángos. It is a well-known street food that many locals and tour guides recommend to visitors.
The food I tried was called lángos. It is a traditional Hungarian dish made from deep-fried flatbread. The most common version has sour cream and shredded cheese on top, yet many other toppings can be added. I chose to stick with the traditional version.
When I first saw the lángos, it did not seem very large as I would have imagined it to be. However, once I started eating it, I realized how filling it was. I was surprised by both the taste and the size. The outside was crispy, and the inside was soft and warm, which made it very enjoyable. Even though I was hungry, I could only eat about half of it.
Lángos is made from a dough of flour, yeast, water, and salt. The dough is shaped into a flat circle, similar to a pizza, and then deep-fried until it becomes golden brown. This makes the outside crispy while the inside stays soft. After frying, it is topped with sour cream and shredded cheese. Some people also add meats or other toppings.
