Tet Holiday!

Introduction:

This week, I am celebrating Tet, or the Lunar New Year! I will be eating traditional foods, going to celebrations, and spending time with my close friends and community members! Tet is the most important holiday in Viet Nam. I am so excited to be here to celebrate!

What tradition did I learn about?:

I learned all about the Tet Holiday. Tet refers to the Lunar New Year, or the first day in the Vietnamese Lunar Calendar. People have an entire week off of work and school to celebrate with their families. Most people travel back to their hometowns. During the holiday, people eat traditional foods such as báng chưng, a rice and pork dish; boiled chicken; braised pork; and nem rán, fried spring rolls. During Tet, people give out lì xì, or lucky money envelopes. People also clean their homes before the holiday to get rid of bad luck.
