Whales and the Dominican Heat!

Introduction:

Between January and March, humpback whales travel across the sea! Many tourists come during this winter season to go whale watching. The last month, I have seen many whales jumping out of the ocean, right at one of my favorite beaches, Playa Grande. Humpback whales migrate (moving from one place to another) from the North Atlantic ocean to the warm waters of the Dominican Republic. Let's learn more!

What makes this environment special or different?:

Humpback whales migrate to the oceans of the Dominican Republic because of the warm water. They give birth to baby calves and raise them in the Caribbean sea. The water is safe and without predators, warm and shallow.  It's the perfect spot for raising their babies! They travel over 3,000 miles from the North Atlantic Ocean to be in the Caribbean.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

Many animals live in the Dominican Republic because of its warm temperatures. It rarely gets cold. The ocean is warm in the Domincan Republic even in the winter because it is so hot down here! A cold day in the Domincan Republic would be about 72 degrees Fahrenheit. In Idaho, that is considered a warm day! The temperature definitely helps the people and creatures live here.
