Even though lots of creatures live here because the warmth, at the same time, the biggest challenge of living here is the heat. The heat helps people to grow food in the farmlands, but on occasion it can be too intense. Sometimes, school is even cancelled for the heat! In Idaho, we get school cancelled when we have snow days or when it is too cold to go to school, but in the Dominican Republic, we get hot days and have to stay home from the intense sun!
Dominicans always try to find shade to hide their skin from the blaring sun, and they spend their free time at the beach (la playa), a lake (un bolneario) or a river (un rio). The water and opportunities to swim help Dominicans and animals who live here cool down and enjoy el calor (the heat) a little more.
