Holidays and traditions are important because they connect us to our history, bring people together and help keep our cultures alive. Now, follow along as I teach you all about Carnival and its amazing traditions in Belize!
I got the pleasure to experience Carnival last year and the tradition they do the night before this holiday, called Jouvert. This is when everyone stays up the whole night prior to Carnival, celebrating in the streets. A huge music bus rolls down the main road and the people on top throw bright, colorful paint into the crowd. By the time the bus reaches the end, the whole town looks like a giant rainbow! Then Carnival begins!
It’s a huge parade where people wear amazing costumes covered in shiny jewels, huge feathers and bright colors. They dance, show off their outfits and some even ride horses right down the street! Around the parade, there are tons of yummy Belizean foods from local street vendors. There are treats, snacks and dishes from all over the country. You can even hop on fun rides like the Ferris wheel and the carousel, or try winning prizes at fair games. Doesn't that sound like an awesome party?
