In this journal entry, I want to share my enthusiasm for one of Taiwan's most captivating features: night markets. If you guessed that night markets hold a special place in my heart, you're absolutely right! By the time you finish reading this, I hope you'll understand what makes night markets so special and perhaps even share a new interest in them!

What is a night market?

Night markets, often referred to as Ye-Shi (夜市; pronounced yèshì) by locals, are akin to farmer's markets but with a twist—they operate daily, primarily during the evenings from sunset to sunrise. These night markets are predominantly found in urban or suburban areas. Although some are found in enclosed spaces designed for marketplaces, most of them are found on sidewalks or fill entire streets that during the day time are filled with people and vehicles.

In my opinion, the ambiance of night markets is its most attractive feature. As a young person traveling, I love the often bustling and lively atmosphere where vendors are yelling out and advertising their goods. There is constant, loud chatter as you are surrounded by people buying goods or lining up at stalls.
