¡Hola, amigos! My name is Melissa Terrall, and I’m currently living in Mexico City. I am a Fulbright student researcher studying piano music at Mexico’s National Conservatory.
A little bit about me: I’m from green and rainy Portland, Oregon. Some of my favorite pastimes in my hometown are hiking in Forest Park, visiting coffee shops, going on a day trip to the beach (just an hour away!), or going to a concert at the Oregon Symphony. Music has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. My mom was my first piano teacher when I was four years old, and I started taking lessons with a local teacher when I was eleven. I even started teaching piano lessons when I was only thirteen years old!
At the end of high school, I was undecided about what I wanted to study in college, so I took a gap year (a year between highschool and university) to work. I wanted to get a music degree, but I doubted whether I was good enough to be a professional pianist. During my gap year, I met Dr. Julia Lee, a piano professor who invited me to study with her at Portland State University (PSU). After receiving my bachelor’s degree at PSU, I went on for my masters degree in piano performance at the University of Kansas.
