Fishing has been one of my passions from the time I was young. My dad often took us out on the water to enjoy a beautiful summer day and to do some fishing. As such, one of the things that most excited me about Tenerife was the ability to fish for new species and meet new fishermen. I eagerly packed my suitcase full of fishing gear I had accumulated in the United States. I even bought a new fishing rod specifically designed for traveling. I knew I would spend a lot of time fishing in Tenerife, but I had no idea how challenging it would be.

In the United States, and specifically around Boston, I would have considered myself a skillful fisherman. My friends and I knew our local harbor like the back of our hands and had no problem catching fish day after day. When I arrived in Tenerife, I scoped out local spots using Google Earth and Google Maps. I even walked down by the shoreline to search for potential fishing spots. Little did I know, however, that spots to fish were limited along my city of residence, and those that were available were difficult to reach. It required climbing down a steep pile of rocks to get close enough to the water's edge to fish. At this point, I felt discouraged but still grew eager to find the perfect spot to fish.
