Hello fellow travelers! My name is Lily Hoang, a third-year Biology and Anthropology student on the pre-med track at the University of Louisville. In addition to my major, I am minoring in Spanish, and I have been studying Spanish for the past six years. My family immigrated from Vietnam to the United States in the early 2000s, and I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. Growing up in Louisville gave me the privilege to witness the unique experience of diversity and the complexity that comes with it. As a low-income, first generation, Southeast Asian female (there's a mouthful!), you could say there are many things that go against me within society in terms of prejudice and accessibility to resources and opportunities. However, those challenges have become sources of motivation to me, shaping my ambitions and the ways in which I approach different aspects of my personal life, in school, and in a work environment.
The Southside of Louisville, the neighborhood that I have called home for the past twenty-one years of my life, contains families of various cultures with the same socio-economic background as me.
