The outdoors was a significant part of my childhood, and my favorite moments were spent outside. Still, I grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a city with a long history of pollution and struggle to alleviate it. As I have begun to understand my hometown’s battle against pollution, I have developed a strong interest in its consequences and a desire to mitigate its repercussions on the human and natural world.

Since environmental conservation is fundamental to ecosystems and communities all over the world, I sought out post-graduate opportunities to pursue global problems in my field of environmental engineering. The Amazon Rainforest is home to over 30 million people and 400 indigenous communities, whose economic and cultural activities depend on the Amazon River.
