When packing my bags for Ecuador, I had one main thing in mind. It is going to be hot! When researching the weather, I saw that the temperature would most likely always be in the mid 80's and that the humidity is very high. My luggage consisted mainly of shorts, t-shirts, tank tops and sandals. I wanted to look nice for my first day of classes when I arrived. So I wore a cute pair of jeans shorts, a white tank top, and my favorite white and silver sandals. I was super excited up until the very moment I stepped into the classroom. I stood out like a sore thumb! I was the only person in all of my classes wearing shorts. I got many curious looks from people, who could obviously tell that I was a foreigner and new to Ecuador. I was completely shocked! How could I be the only person dressed for the weather?
I felt so confused! I could not figure out what in the world was going on. Why was everyone wearing jeans or nice dress pants when it felt like 100 degress outside?! Luckily for me, one of my teachers happened to be American. She was born in Arizona. However, she and her family moved to live in Ecuador when she was only nine years old. She asked me how I liked the country so far and if I needed any help.
