Hello! I am super excited to get to know you and to learn from you too!

My name is Niadiquay Everette. I was born and raised in Durham, North Carolina in a single-parent household. I am the oldest of five and the only girl. As a child, I attended public school. My education was interesting for a lot of reasons: I could feel the clash between the way we spoke in my household and the way I needed to speak at school. I realized at an early age that I didn’t speak the way my classmates did. On top of that, I realized that my peers at school had many luxuries that I did not at the time, including running water in their homes. Nonetheless, I felt the need to constantly remind my elementary school teacher (as early as the second grade) to inquire about the "academically intellectually gifted" (AIG) courses when she would forget that I was supposed to be enrolled in them. No, my mother was not there to advocate for me. Instead, at an early age I realized that I would have to take the initiative to do some things on my own! I would like to say that this grit and tenacity stayed with me throughout grade school.
