Nature News

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week?:

About a 10-minute walk from my apartment is a small lake, called Jezero Bubanj. Although the lake is man-made, it formed in a rather unique way during the 1970s. It developed in an excavation pit on the grounds of a former brickyard (ciglana), where workers unexpectedly uncovered a powerful natural spring known as Bubanj Spring. The spring water, combined with rainfall led to many small puddles and pools merging into one larger body of water.

Today, the lake is a peaceful spot and a popular gathering place for locals. Since walking around Kragujevac is generally very safe, even for women exploring alone, I felt comfortable visiting around dusk. I was rewarded with a beautiful view as daylight slowly faded into night over the lake. Brilliant orange hues from the sunset gradually gave way to bluish-purple skies, and the colors were shimmering across the water.

Other Nature News from this week:

I have been trying to catch the sunset most days, and the sunsets in Kragujevac are often breathtakingly vibrant! Sometimes, I watch them from the balcony of my apartment, but I often prefer to be out walking, surrounded by other people enjoying the ambiance of the day slipping into night. I love taking pictures, grabbing a coffee and occasionally drawing as I take in the views.
