This week brought a mix of sunshine and rain. Fall weather in Milan feels a lot like fall in Philadelphia! Even in the few weeks since I arrived, it’s started to feel cooler, with temperatures mostly in the high sixties and low seventies.
Flamingos! A flock lives in the garden of Villa Invernizzi, in Milan’s Quadrilatero del Silenzio (Silence Quarter). The villa is a private residence, so you can’t go inside to visit them, but you can catch a glimpse of the flamingos through the fence as you walk past.
I’ve noticed several kinds of trees in Italy that I’m less used to seeing back in Philadelphia, from the tall, narrow Italian cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) to the Italian stone pine (Pinus pinea), also known as the umbrella pine. The tree I’ve noticed most often on my walks in Milan is the Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris). There’s even a large one growing in the courtyard of the University of Milan’s main building!
