We are firmly into the rainy season in the sierra (highlands), and the rain is almost constant in the afternoons. Fortunately, the temperatures are very reasonable. Living at the foot of the mountains, we are at elevated risk of flooding with the rains, and the melting glaciers also contribute to the rising water levels.
I was finally able to get out and do some field work, and while I was out in the puna (grassland), I saw a wild vicuña, which is a relative of llamas and alpacas. I also saw some interesting birds but couldn't ID them.
In Huaraz itself, I always see groups of street dogs. They sometimes bark but thankfully don't actually get aggressive. In the field, dogs are more territorial and can bite people.
