Nature News

What was the coolest thing I saw in nature this week?:

There are these colorful flower bunches that grow in and around the sidewalks, as well as in people's gardens, and they fascinate me. Despite the cold weather, lack of sun and, at times, lack of water, they never cease being bright and healthy looking. After some digging, I discovered that they are called “scottish heather”. Scottish heather is an evergreen half-shrub that is native to wider Europe, western Asia and even northern Africa.

Other Nature News from this week:

There may not be snow here, but they do get one kind of weather that we are quite unfamiliar with in the United States. All over Germany, there will sometimes be wind storms. These don’t sound all that interesting at the start, and they are not like tornados. The danger is that the wind blows so strongly that it will blow over trees or rip shingles off of people’s roofs! We had one minor wind storm in the area last week that closed part of the train track for a few hours.
