Hi, everyone! I’m Nathan, writing from Rio. Here's a funny fact about me... I was vegetarian for almost three years, but now my favorite food is chicken wings! Since coming to Brazil, food has been one of the most exciting ways I’ve been able to connect with the culture and people here.
I’ve tried so many new things! A few of them include açaí bowls; churrasco (Brazilian barbecue); brigadeiros (chocolate truffles); tropical fruits such as guava and níspero; traditional cafeteria breakfasts with rice, beans, eggs, steak and farofa; and even a café breakfast with orange coffee and mushroom eggs benedict.
Each food has felt like its own adventure. Açaí was refreshing, perfect after the beach. Churrasco was smoky and fun to eat with friends. Cooking brigadeiros with my host mom made me feel at home. The tropical fruits surprised me with how sweet they were. The university breakfast blew me away, not just for how filling it was, but because it only cost about $2 U.S.D.! And the orange coffee with eggs benedict felt both like something i've had at home but also completely new.
