Traveler Bio

Hello! My name is Natasha Harwood. I am currently 23 years old and hail from the small town Butte, Montana. During my sophomore year of high school, I began taking German classes in hopes of participating in an exchange supported by my school. During my senior year, after three years of learning German, I was able to participate in this month-long exchange to Butte’s German sister city: Altensteig, Baden-Württemberg. This trip was my first experience leaving the United States, and it fostered in me a passion for the German language and culture.

After my first trip to Germany, I chose to further my studies of the language and culture at the University of Montana. While at the university I explored my interest in other languages, which lead me to studying in St. Petersburg, Russia for a whole semester my senior year. This summer I graduated from the University of Montana with degrees in German and Russian as well as a minor in linguistics. Now I am living in Rochlitz, a small town in the German state of Saxony as the recipient of a Fulbright grant to teach English abroad. My main task with this grant is to aid in the teaching of English at a German high school; however, I will also have plenty of time to explore the local culture for myself.

I cannot wait to share my adventures in Germany with you, and I look forward to hearing from you as well!
