Hello everyone! My name is Alexander Azar and I am grateful you are taking the time learn more about me. I was born in Providence, Rhode Island and am currently living in Lincoln, RI. My family has lived in Rhode Island for about a century and I have many cousins nearby and at my church. My family heritage is Syrian as my family used to live near Damascus, Syria before immigrating to the U.S in the early 20th century. We are also Melkite Christians who were accepted into the Catholic Church after we moved to America. My immediate family told me numerous stories of traveling to the Middle East and exploring the great Christian architecture in Lebanon and Syria, including my Mother's contribution in constructing a church in our ancestral village. These adventures inspired to me to travel as well however I have never been to Syria due to the persecution of Christians in the country.
My immediate family has a legacy of education, as my Mother was a teacher for high school and middle school students. My Aunt is a librarian, first in Providence and now in Arizona and my Uncle is a superintendent in Massachusetts after serving as a principal for years. Education is very important because of my own personal struggle to earn an opportunity for one.
