What main languages are spoken here?:

In school, about sixty percent of my students speak Tamil and the other forty percent speak Sinhala. Tamil is the minority language in Sri Lanka, but it is the primary language of the hill country tea plantations. Eventually, the school will become more Tamil-heavy because that is the population Tea Leaf Vision is present to serve, but at the moment, the proportion is fairly even because those underrepresented populations are waiting to see that the organization works.

What type of money is used here?:

The Sri Lankan rupee! Comparable to my wages in the U.S., I don't make a very good salary here, but due to the cost of living, I have been able to save a little money.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water costs about seventy rupees, which is less than fifty cents in the U.S. However, as a tip for your if you travel here, if you order filtered tap water at restaurants, water is free, just like in the U.S.!

What was the best meal this week?:

At the business fair, my students made all manner of foods. There was a juice shop, Sri Lankan-Western fusion cuisine, barbecue and hotdogs, and noodles and kottu (chopped up flat bread mixed with veggies and spices). I think the juice shop was my favorite.
