One of my favorite things about this opportunity to live and research in Hungary is the support of the Hungarian Fulbright Commission. From my very first week, they gathered all the other Fulbright grantees and professors and introduced us to one another and to life in Hungary.

The Fulbright U.S. Student Program is a U.S.-based program that offers the chance to either research, study, or teach abroad. Anyone with a Bachelors degree (but not a Doctorate) can apply for the grant, and even those with a Doctorate who are professors can take part in a parallel program to teach abroad. There are over 140 countries who partner with Fulbright to either receive or send students from/to the U.S. Programs can last anywhere from a few months to close to a year. The goal of this program is cross collaboration and understanding among people of differing cultures.

The Fulbright Hungary program in particular is quite robust and offers a lot of unique experiences to learn about Hungary and its people. During our first week, we had morning Hungarian lessons, followed by informative lectures on Hungarian politics, currency, history and much more. We were also taken to several cultural sites such as Hero Square and Buda Palace.
