From Mongolia, With Gratitude

I’m also looking forward to future reunions with my coworkers, local friends, Peace Corps volunteers and the many people I met here.

I hope when you look back on your fourth-grade year, you’ll remember our time together, and maybe even one fact about Mongolia! Mongolia is just one place in a very big world. You’ve probably heard this before, but maybe not like this: the world is your classroom AND your oyster! I hope you hold onto the curiosity you’ve shown me. Your thoughtful questions have even made me think more deeply about my own experiences here. One day, when you have the chance, I hope you go out and explore, ask questions and create your own adventures.

When you’re older and truly reach the world, I hope you’ll consider opportunities like the Gilman Scholarship (to study or work abroad in college) or the Fulbright Program (to teach, research or study abroad). These experiences shaped my perspective and allowed me to see the world in new ways, and I hope you’ll take advantage of opportunities like these too.

Lastly, thank you, Mr. Harris, for being so warm and welcoming to my mom and me, and for sharing your classroom and enthusiasm with both the students and me through Reach the World. I hope we can stay in touch, and as always, I’m happy to answer any questions you might have. I’ll also be back in our hometown of Reno this summer!

Stay curious, thoughtful and enthusiastic!
