Hi! My name is Molly. I am 24 years old, from Hoschton, Georgia, and currently serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala.
I graduated two years ago with degrees in Health Promotion and International Affairs and minors in Spanish and Global Health. I first heard about the Peace Corps in high school and always had it in the back of my mind to join after graduating. Growing up, I went to a dual-immersion elementary school where I began learning Spanish and Latin American culture. I grew up trying new foods, learning about different holidays, and listening to music from around the world. Since then, I knew I wanted to live in another country, continue learning Spanish, and take part in cultural exchange.
About a year after graduating, I decided to apply. I did not choose to serve in Guatemala, but instead chose to serve in a Spanish-speaking country where I was needed most. This meant that the Peace Corps placed me in a country where my skills could best be applied. Now, I am serving as a Maternal and Child Health Volunteer and spend my days working with a health center to promote health education and healthy behaviors. I live with a host family in the northern mountains of Quiché, rely on public transportation to get around, and spend my free time visiting other volunteers across the country.
Peace Corps Volunteers like me live and work side by side with community members around the world, collaborating on locally prioritized projects, building relationships, exchanging cultures and knowledge, and helping transform lives for generations. Learn more by clicking here.
