Tasmanian Devils are an endangered species and are facing a variety of threats. One of the biggest is Devil Facial Tumour Disease or DFTD. This disease causes tumors to form around the head and neck of the devils making eating extremely difficult. The disease has a very high fatality rate and is the primary threat to these creatures. Another major threat is vehicles and roadways. Since Tasmanian Devils feed on carrion, they are often found near the sides of roads feeding on roadkill. This results in many Tasmanian Devils getting killed by cars. Despite the dangers to these creatures, places like the Tasmanian Devil reserve we visited are dedicated to ensuring the survival of this magnificent species.
