He serves it with rice & beans and pasta salad, a Belizean classic!
In Belize “Soka” music is very popular. It has a fast and upbeat style with a drum base in the background. It's so lively, it makes you want to get up off your feet and dance! I can’t go one block without hearing someone listening to soka music.
This week, I was volunteering as a referee for a volleyball tournament in my town. It was so fun because I got to watch all the boys and girls play against each other. There was a bunch of food vendors so during my breaks I got to try some new foods. My favorite was a mango chamoyada smoothie!
One of my main roles at my school is to help out with the library which means I have access to a bunch of amazing books! This week I started reading “A Wrinkle in Time” by Madeleine L'Engle. Have you heard of it?
Some of the other Peace Corps volunteers and I got together on the weekend to play a game of kickball. Of course right when we got to the park it started raining- but that didn’t stop us! We continued to play and it ended up being more fun that way because we were sliding across the bases like penguins! Can you imagine what we must have looked like!
Another part of my job is to help out with coaching the sports teams at my school. The current sports season is volleyball so everyday we’ve been having practices. We have are first official game next week, and if we win we get to advance in the tournament. Wish us luck!
