Meet My Host Brother, Miko!

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

School starts at 8:00 a.m., but the teachers don’t really mind when you are late, so I like to take my time. School ends at 3:30 p.m.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

My school is a two-minute walk from my house. I take my brother with me to and from school. It’s so easy, I could do it blindfolded.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

I don’t go out for lunches, but my favorite food of all time is shrimp ceviche. I wish I could have it all the time!

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

In school, we are taught in English; but at recess, me and my friends talk in Kriol with each other. If I was greeting someone, I would say “Weh di guan bally” which basically means “what’s going on friend.”

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

A lot of the kids at my school have the same last names. Some of those are Palacio, Florez and Garcia. But, people usually have pretty unique first names here.

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

There’s math, Spanish, Belizean studies, literature and science. My favorite is Spanish because I really want to know how to speak it one day.

What is your homework like?:

I have a lotttt of homework. It was easier when Mia used to live here because she would help me with it. Spelling and grammar homework is my least favorite.
