Catching up with Jhostin

Elementary and middle school starts at 8 am and ends at 1 pm and then the kids go home and eat lunch with their families.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

I go to school by myself on my motorcycle.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

Sometimes I eat lunch with my grandparents in their house or I eat at a small restaurant across the street from my school. It is called a Menu which means that there are only 5 or 6 options and they are all pretty cheap. It is about 8 soles ($2.37).

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

I speak Spanish at home and at school. "Hola," everyone!

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

There are a lot of the same names that you would find in the United States but they are spelled or pronounced differently: Jhostin (Justin), Jilary (Hilary), Brigi (Brittney), Daniel, Ruth, Frank, Khalessi (like Game of Thrones), or Jhanpier (John Pier). There are also some names that are only common in Peru: Gygs, Lenin, Keen, Sahory, or Kaory.

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

We study communication, religion, math, science and technology, education for jobs (computers, sewing and carpentry), physical education, English, art and culture, personal development as a citizen and tutoria (homeroom/life skills). My favorite is physical education.

What is your homework like?:

My school does not allow homework.
