Our News

It is about a young Chinese girl who lives in Canada and her discovery of her family's past in China. I am reading this novel because there is an English language book club in Dresden, and we are discussing this book at our meeting next week. Now that I'm in Germany, I use an e-reader app on my phone to do a lot of my reading since books are heavy and I couldn't fit many books in my suitcase.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

I played a game with my students called, "Five Things I Did Today." In this game, the students had to tell me in English five things that they did during the day. The goal of the game is to list as many different activities in English as possible without repeating any activity. It doesn't sound too difficult, but there was a catch. If one student repeated an activity that another student had already said, we had to start the game all over again.

Other news from this week:

I hosted my first English conversation club after school at Schiller-Gymnasium on Wednesday. It was a great opportunity to get to know my students better and to learn more about their interests. Sometimes I notice that students get nervous to speak English in class because they are worried about making mistakes. Since the conversation club is something I host for fun, the students felt much more comfortable speaking with me in English there.
