The German word for cash is Bargeld (bar-geld) and the German word for coins is Münze (myoon-ze. I brought a coin purse with me to Germany since I have to carry many coins with me every day.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A one-liter bottle of water at my local supermarket, Rewe, costs .44 euro cents, which equals about .52 cents in U.S. dollars.

What was the best meal this week?:

You might be surprised to learn that the American classic, a burger and fries, is also very popular in Germany. There are more than five burger restaurants within two blocks of my apartment. I have to say that the Germans do make a very delicious burger! This week I tried a burger and fries from a restaurant called Burger Club 13. It was really delicious and also cheap! 

What music did I listen to this week?:

I am in a community orchestra in Dresden, and we rehearsed Felix Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 3, which is also known as the "Scottish" Symphony. To prepare for the rehearsal, I listened to this symphony from a recording on my phone. Mendelssohn is a German composer who lived in the 19th century.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

This week, I taught my first lessons to my English students. I gave a short presentation about myself with lots of pictures of my friends and family. The students really liked seeing the pictures, and were also enthusiatic about introducing themselves. I had a fun time learning about my students and was impressed with their English skills.

What did I read this week?:

I'm reading a novel called Do Not Say We Have Nothing by Madeleine Thien.
