Pogiso likes to walk and explore the area while collecting cans and bottles. She is doing this to save up to help improve her business.
She speaks four langauages! Here is how you say hello in each of them.
Setswana: Dumela [do-mel-ah]
Sebirwa: Thobelo [toe-bell oh]
Kalanga: Dumilani [doom-ill-on-e]
English: Hello
Sebirwa is the language she grew up with in her home village of Boborong, which is south of here, near Francistown. School is taught in Setswana and English, but the kids in her area spoke Kalanga, so she had to learn all four languages at a young age.
She used to have a dog. She currently doesn't have any pets, as she is renting and is not allowed to have one.
Pogiso has traveled in many places in Botswana. She has also been to Zambia, and South Africa. South Africa is her favorite because of the businesses there are all trying. In Botswana people are relaxed and life happens slowly.
Growing up, she often traveled by donkey cart.
Pogiso is a community volunteer at the Kazungula Clinic, where I also volunteer. She mainly assists the pharmacist to help with ordering, managing inventory, and keeping the stockroom clean and organized. She also has her own business selling snacks and small items. She has a degree in social work and dreams one day of opening an orphange to help children in the community.
