Class just ended, and my friends and I decided to go out for lunch. Feeling adventurous, we decided to go for Chinese food and found a place on Google maps about 20 minutes away. As we were walking, my friend looked over my shoulder and asked me, “So which way do we turn next Maxine?” Everyone turned to me expectantly and I panicked a bit. I did not realize everyone thought I knew where the place was! I gave a nervous chuckle and answered honestly, “I have no idea…I’ve just been playing Pokémon Go.” I showed her my screen and everyone started laughing. My friend that asked the question muttered between chuckles, “that’s classic Maxine. Such a nerd.” I quickly pulled out Google maps and began to lead the way. We found the restaurant soon after and enjoyed the unique experience of Chinese food in Italy.
This short story can give you a little idea of who I am. My name is Maxine Smith, I am nineteen years old, and I am on an exciting journey in Italy!
I have lived in cities all my life, and they helped make me who I am today. I lived in the city of Mount Vernon until I was twelve years old and went to school in the Bronx. I was the rowdy tomboy with a big imagination and thirst for adventure. I developed my love for exploration, playing games (to this day Pokémon is still my favorite!) and learning about different places and people during this time.
