But once my daily routine starts, I may be traveling up to 5 miles to and from the Museum of Natural History each day (about 30 minutes each way on the Paris Métro).
I used lots of forms of transportation to get to and then to get around in Paris, including taking an Uber to the airport in Bogotá, taking two planes to get to France, grabbing a taxi, walking a lot and taking the metro. While I am here I won’t have to do that much more traveling out of the city, except for on some weekends. I will mostly walk or use the Métro to get around.
I have to say, the Paris Museum of Natural History is fantastique (that’s “fantastic” in French!) and is probably my favorite so far. I am lucky that I got to go behind the scenes, since I am working there, and explore the old chemistry building with a new friend. I found out that the famous French scientist Marie Curie used to work in a laboratory right in that building! The museum was founded over 200 years ago, and you can get a feel of how old it is just by looking at the walls, creaky wooden floors and lots of old labeled bottles full of chemicals.
When traveling, I often take the opportunity to chat with those around me, whether it be the passenger next to me on the plane, the taxi driver or someone waiting to get on the Métro with me. Even if the conversations are brief, I find that talking to people makes me feel more connected to where I am and also sometimes gets me good travel suggestions, especially from the locals!
