Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

French, but I have also heard many other languages being spoken, such as German, Spanish and English. Amazingly, many French people grow up learning multiple languages, and they are often fluent in them all!

What type of money is used here?:

The euro (€), like the other countries in the European Union (EU). Before the EU adopted this common currency in 1999, France’s money was called the franc.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

About €1.60 to €2 (which is about $1.75 to $2.20 these days), depending on where you buy it. I always just ask for tap water, since it is free and since the city’s water quality is very good!

What was the best meal this week?:

Definitely a tomato, basil and brie (a type of cheese) sandwich I ate at a small bakery called Boulangerie Saint Hilaire I found near the Jardin des plantes (Paris Botanical Garden). Even simple foods, like sandwiches, are delicious in this city. I also loved the bread and pastries I ate for breakfast almost every day this week!

What music did I listen to this week?:

I’m a big fan of oldies. I’ve been trying to listen to French radio, which is more modern, but I still go back to the famous French singer Édith Piaf because she is such a classic.
