A Taste of Ireland

Introduction:

Ireland is very well known for its potatoes. In fact, the potato has been one of the most important crops in Ireland's history. Most of Ireland is covered with lush, beautiful green grass. Amidst the grass, there are many fields for crops. Due to the great soil quality and frequent rains, Ireland has been a great place for farming. In fact, centuries ago, it was what most people in Ireland did. The main crop of Ireland in the early 1800s was the potato. One season, there was a mold that spread across the potato crops causing them to be inedible. This continued for many seasons and many people went without food to eat. This was when a great wave of people, approximately three million, emigrated or left Ireland to come to places like America, Canada and Australia. This is just a glimpse into the pain caused by the loss of the potato crop. Now, Ireland has many crops of wonderful rich foods including the potato. They are also well known for dairy products. You may have seen some in your supermarkets, like Kerrygold butter for instance. Although Ireland now has many wonderful foods and fresh ingredients, the potato is a significant crop, and because of this, nearly every meal in Ireland is served with some form of a potato.

What food did I try?:

One of the foods that I tried was a dish called chicken supreme. This is a roast chicken served with potato stuffing and gravy.
