Hi everyone!
One of my favorite parts of being in Copenhagen so far has definitely been trying the food. Eating here feels much different from the United States. Back home, people often take food to go because they are busy or in a rush. In Denmark, people really take the time to sit down, enjoy their meals, and spend time with the people they are with.
There is even a special word for this feeling, hygge. Hygge is all about creating a cozy, relaxed atmosphere with friends or family and slowing down to enjoy the moment. You can really see this in the cafe culture all around the city. People sit in cafes chatting, drinking coffee, and eating pastries for a long time and no one seems to be in a rush.
During my time here, I’ve tried several traditional Danish foods. One of the most well known is smørrebrød. This is an open faced sandwich that consists of a slice of dark rye bread and different toppings added on top. Some have fish, some have eggs, and others have meat or vegetables (they also love pickled onions). The one I tried had laks, which is cured salmon and it was super tasty.
I’ve also tried a lot of pastries since Denmark is famous for them.
