We had the opportunity to try pomegranate juice and jam. As someone who was never a fan of the fruit, this trip not only allowed me to appreciate the hard work that goes into cultivating them, but I was also surprised by how delicious they are!
Since I've been in Amman, we have not gotten any rain. However, on the hike, our tour guide showed us an interesting way that Bedouins (nomadic Arab tribes who have historically inhabited the desert regions) predict when the rain will come.
There is a plant that grows in various places. It's long and stick-like with black seeds on the top. He explained that Bedouins, look at the moisture in these plants to predict when and how much rain will come. For instance, if the plant breaks easily and is dry, there likely won't be much, if any, rain. If it is sturdy and moist inside, they can expect it to rain soon. Also, if they shake the plant and the seeds fall to the ground quickly, they expect heavy rain that season.
We tried this, and it looks like there will be heavy rain soon!
