This week, I packed my suitcase (again!) and headed north to the beautiful city of Gdańsk for our Fulbright mid-year meeting. It felt a little like the first day of school and a family reunion all at once. Fulbrighters from all across Poland came together in one place to check in, share stories and cheer each other on.
Living in different parts of Poland means we all have different experiences. Some people teach at universities. Others work in schools or research labs. Some live in busy cities, like Warsaw or Kraków. Others, like me, live in smaller towns. So, when we finally meet up, there is so much to talk about! We shared funny classroom moments, Polish tongue twisters we still cannot pronounce, and stories about surviving the very cold Polish winter. (Let’s just say, I have learned the art of layering)
The meeting was not just about catching up. We also talked about our goals, challenges and the second half of our Fulbright year. It felt really special to sit in a room with people who understand what it is like to live far from home, try new foods and speak a different language every day. Even though we are spread out across the country, it reminded me that I am part of a team.
